Overkiz solutions are compatible with KNX

Overkiz remains committed to having an increasingly open ecosystem, adding the KNX wired protocol to the radio protocols already compatible with its IoT solutions.

Designed for residential and non-residential real estate markets, this new compatibility addresses the flexibility and interoperability needs of professionals in the field (installers, electricians, developers, and property builders). Another step forward for Overkiz, opening new horizons for connected buildings by bringing together wired and radio connections.

What the heck is KNX?

The ever-increasing demand for building management systems goes hand in hand with ever-increasing demand for comfort, security, and energy savings. In response, the international open and interoperable wired standard KNX makes it possible to centrally control equipment in a home or office, such as lighting, shutters, security systems, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, water, and energy. All these functions can be controlled by a single system, without requiring an additional control center.

Popular in European and throughout the world, KNX offers a great deal of freedom in the choice of equipment since it does not limit products to a particular manufacturer or brand and guarantees system longevity, even if fixtures are updated.

Benefits across the board, from renovations to new construction

The Overkiz Hattara® DIN Rail smart gateway now combines KNX technology with io-homecontrol, EnOcean, RTS, Zigbee 3.0, Z-wave, Wifi, and Bluetooth radio communication protocols.

Simply adding a standard KNX module to the Hattara® DIN Rail, alongside existing radio modules, allows the various protocols to work together and streamlines the installation procedure for installers. Grouped together in a single home automation gateway, this wired/radio combination offers a serious benefit for developers and installers in the form of ease of use and major time savings for professionals in the field.

Adding radio equipment to an existing KNX system in renovations avoids the cost and complication of fully replacing existing wired systems. In new construction projects, this compatibility allows a mixed use of KNX and radio products, as early as the building design phase. No matter what, control is centralized in an all-in-one application.

Occupants are still free to create multiple smart scenarios, without needing the integrator’s help, to craft a more comfortable environment that works for everyone.

This new compatibility encompasses many brands, including B.E.G., Gira, Hager, Jung, Theben, and Siemens, and many product categories. See our compatibility catalog.

How does it work?

Whether for a new construction or a renovation, installers and electricians can choose between a turnkey solution using the Overkiz Hattara® DIN Rail gateway or take it a step further by customizing their end-to-end solution with the Overkiz infrastructure.

3-step procedure:

  1. Install the KNX wired equipment, radio/cloud equipment, and the Hattara® DIN Rail gateway

Install your KNX and radio equipment (wiring and connections) on site. Next, install the Hattara® DIN Rail gateway with the KNX gateway and the Overkiz radio modules you want, directly onto the electrical panel of the home or office.

  1. Configure the KNX and radio equipment

Configure the KNX equipment in the standard ETS5 tool. Pair the radio/cloud equipment using the Overkiz installer app.

  1. Control the equipment

With the white-label Overkiz user app, the end user (home occupant or office user) controls the products and creates and launches smart scenarios.
